According various labels on the verso, this painting was previously in the collection of the Earls of Durham at Lambton Castle, Chester-le-Street, County Durham Jackson Company, Ltd., London (said to have been purchased at Christie's, London) Hyde Park Antiques, New York Purchased from the above in 1997 by the present owner Private collection, New York.
Condition
Wax relined. Generally in very fine condition. Some restoration along the right edge, especially on the mountain in the distance. Two areas of restoration to the clouds and to the blue area of the sky. One at the center, approximately 6 x 1 1/2 inches; the other to the right of this, approximately 8 x 2 inches, irregularly shaped. These have been very carefully restored to the highest professional standard. Wax relined. Generally in very fine condition. Touches of restoration along the right edge. Wax relined.
