David & Maurice Garnier, Paris Findlay Galleries, Inc., Chicago Private Collection, Europe (acquired from the above in 1991; sale: Christie's, New York, 4th November 2009, lot 269) Purchased at the above sale by the present owner Condition The canvas is not lined. There is an irregular layer of varnish preventing the even distribution of UV light. However, UV examination reveals scattered spots of retouching to the background in the right half of the composition. There is some paint shrinkage in places mainly to the black and blue pigments. There are a few scattered minor paint losses to the right half of the composition and some fine lines of stable craquelure in places. This work is in overall good condition.
