Literature
Michael Mack, Ed., Antony Gormley , Göttingen 2007, p. 514, illustrated in colour Condition Colour: The colour in the catalogue illustration is fairly accurate although there are less blue undertones in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. Extremely close inspection reveals some minute scuffs, burnishing and abrasions in isolated places throughout. Further very close inspection reveals some media accretions in isolated places, most notably to the lead joins. "In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective, qualified opinion. Prospective buyers should also refer to any Important Notices regarding this sale, which are printed in the Sale Catalogue. NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF BUSINESS PRINTED IN THE SALE CATALOGUE." Catalogue Note " Scale is one of my last lead body case works and like Lost Subject attempts the closest possible capturing of a lived moment of time. The title refers both to ‘lifescale’ and the balanced scale formerly used to determine the weight of objects. I think of the work as an evocation of internal balance: the materialised equivalent of a balanced state." Antony Gormley, 2018
