Provenance
Victoria Miro Gallery, London Acquired by the present owner from the above Catalogue Note “Sometimes they appear far off and indistinct: skiers on a distant slope, a man on a jetty, a figure on a boat or silhouetted on a rock, or smudged in a white-out snowstorm. Sometimes the distance between us and them is measurable not in yards or miles, but in years, as if the painting were looking backwards to another time. A painting may be filled with things but still record an emptiness, a hollow unease, a kind of blankness. To the viewer looking at Doig’s paintings, it is a sense of exclusion, even of exile.” - Adrian Searle (Adrian Searle, Kitty Scott & Catherine Grenier, Peter Doig, New York, 2007 , p. 55)
