Chamberlain's works on paper from the late 1950s reflect the same preoccupation with shredded, torqued, and crushed forms that seem to alight or teeter in space with almost biomorphic contraposto. Chamberlain was a mainstay of the Allan Stone Gallery program for decades, with numerous significant works having passed through the Allan Stone Collection, including the auction record work Nutcracker , 1958. The recipient of numerous awards, Chamberlain was honored with two Guggenheim Fellowships in 1966 and 1977, the Skowhegan Medal for Sculpture and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the International Sculpture Center in Washington DC, both in 1993; The National Arts Club Award in New York in 1997; and the Guild Hall Academy of the Fine Arts, Visual Arts Honoree for the 22nd Annual Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Chamberlain has had countless gallery and museum exhibitions, including shows at Leo Castelli Gallery, Gagosian Gallery, the 1964 Venice Biennale, and retrospectives at the Museum of Contemporary Art: Los Angeles in 1986, and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in 1971 and 2012. Chamberlain is in numerous public collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, the Menil Collection, Houston, the Kunstmuseum Winterthur, Switzerland, DIA Beacon, and the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
