PETER BIEGEL British 1913 - 1988 RED ALERT signed Peter Biegel and dated '73 (lower left) oil on canvas canvas: 24 by 29⅞ in.; 60.9 by 75.8 cm framed: 29 by 35 in.; 73.6 by 88.9 cm Catalogue note The Firestones’ Red Alert was, like King’s Company , trained in Ireland. In the summer of 1974, Red Alert won the G3 Jersey S. at Royal Ascot and the Steward’s Cup H. at Glorious Goodwood, ridden each time by Johnny Roe (possibly depicted in the present work wearing the green and white Firestone racing silks). At the time Red Alert was trained by the young Dermot Weld and with the Firestones’ support the horse’s victories would launch his career.
