Jack Smith Jack Smith, British 1928-2011 - Continuous, 1972; pencil and felt-pen on paper, signed and dated lower right 'Jack Smith 1972', 54.8 x 75 cm (ARR) Provenance: with Reginald Hill (d.2017), owner of Reille Gallery, London (label attached to the reverse); private collection, gifted by the above Note: Jack Smiths mature style incorporated musical symbols, collage and geometric forms to create a distinctive style, reminiscent of the visionary Modernists of the early 20th century such as Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky. His work was shown at the 1956 Venice Biennale and was the youngest artist to have a solo show at the Whitechapel Gallery in 1971.
